Timy Concept
Time Reporting is a serious business - one does not purchase a Time Reporting System like a PC Mouse. On these pages we attempt to clearly and honestly present the possibilities and limitations of the system. Should you have questions or doubts, please contact us. We will explain and advise you with pleasure, and if we think the system would be ill-suited to your particular application, we will say so.
The Timy System
The Timy system was designed as a modern replacement for the traditional punch clock. We wanted it to be just as simple to install, to set up and to use, and at the same time provide a way to automatically transfer the time stamps to a PC application.
The key factor in achieving this objective of simplicity was to eliminate all cabling between the terminal and the PC. What could be more obvious than using a USB Key to transfer the data? Not only does it reduce "installation" to fixing the terminal to a wall with two screws, but it eliminates all considerations of distance between the terminal and the computer. It makes no difference whether the terminal is next to the PC, 10 floors up, in a different building or on a different site alltogether.
We also wanted the terminal to be robust, so the use of magnetic stripe badges, while attractive from a cost point of view, was out since the badges and read heads are prone to wear. Proximity badges are attractive from a technological point of view, but are still relatively costly. Biometric technologies are the latest fad, but expensive, often complicated and prohibited in some countries because of privacy concerns. The best compromise? Barcode badges - a low-cost optical technique not subject to wear since the code is read by a light beam. The badges will last for years and the reader requires no maintenance or cleaning.
Every Time Reporting System on the market is a compromise between the opposing forces of "simplicity" and "capabilities", dictated by the tremendous range in customer requirements. With traditional programs, the risk is either ending up with insufficient functionality, or a system that is too complex and costly. The solution? An application that runs directly under Excel(c). The Timy-Soft application allows virtually unlimited possibilities for customising the capabilities to suit individual requirements
The Timy "Pack", consisting of terminal, 25 badges, USB-Key, Excel® application and english-language manuals costs 549 € fob Grenoble, France.
Over 6.000 Timy systems have been shipped (as of 01/2010).
